Turkey Feather Fun

Who knew all the fun to be had with a package of colored feathers from the craft store?

Here are some of my favorite ways to use ‘turkey’ feathers in my preschool room during the month of November.

Counting Turkey Feathers

For this activity, I simply drew a turkey, added numbers to the bellies, cut it out, and then had the children lay down the corresponding number of feathers to the back of each turkey.

Turkey Hunt

This idea is from No Time for Flashcards.  Hide a bunch of turkey feathers all over the room and tell the children that a turkey escaped and is running around the classroom!  He keeps leaving behind his feathers!  Can you find them all?

PlayDoh Turkeys

Every November I whip up a batch of chocolate PlayDoh with the kids and we roll it into balls and stick in some turkey feathers.

I love this PlayDoh Turkey Tray from Mama Papa Bubba.

Fine Motor Turkeys

A simple and great idea for preschoolers from Teach Preschool!  All you need is a cup that is decorated like a turkey – then let the kids poke the feathers into the holes.

Sticky Turkey

I love this idea from Minne-Mama!  Very simple little activity using contact paper to keep the littles busy while you’re preparing Thanksgiving dinner.

Footprint Turkey

Finally, anyone tired of ye old handprint turkey?  Mix it up by using feet instead.  Love this cute craft from Fun Handprint Art.
